How to Read a Supplement Facts Label
A step-by-step guide to serving size, active ingredients, proprietary blends, daily values, other ingredients, and label red flags.
Start with serving size
A bottle count can be misleading if one serving requires multiple capsules, droppers, or scoops.
Read amounts, not just ingredient names
Knowing that an ingredient is present is less useful than knowing how much is present.
Watch for proprietary blends
A blend may disclose a total amount while hiding individual ingredient amounts, which can make comparison harder.
Check other ingredients
Sweeteners, flavors, fillers, allergens, and capsule materials can matter depending on your preferences or sensitivities.
Compare claims with the label
If the marketing emphasizes a particular ingredient, confirm that it actually appears on the current label and that the dose is disclosed when possible.
